Personality:
Thomas Barrow is a man with a chip on his shoulder, and he’s not shy about taking that out on other people. His life as a gay man in a decidedly unfriendly society has left him bitter, jealous of those who have what he can’t have, and with a determination to do unto others before they can do unto him. He is generally sneaky, snide, sarcastic, and any number of other unpleasant s-words, along with being quick to take offense and slow to forgive. Even without a particular grudge, he has a tendency to toss verbal barbs at others whenever the opportunity arises, often without even thinking about it. Of course, those he feels are of use to him, such as employers or potential employers, are spared this side of Thomas and instead are treated to the very model of good surface...or at least the well-polished veneer of it.
Thomas also has a desire to always come out on top, especially when it comes to his career, and is not afraid to get his hands dirty to do so. In fact, he’d rather do it that way than by earning promotion through merit. For example, trying to get promoted from footman to valet by framing the current valet for theft, or trying to curry the Earl’s favor by dognapping his beloved labrador and then “finding” it for him. More often than not, however, Thomas’s “clever” schemes end up backfiring on him, and only dumb luck keeps him from getting him from getting fired, or worse.
Somewhere deep at his core, however, Thomas is really a sad, wounded man who really does want people to like and care for him. He just hasn’t quite managed to work out that whole “treat others how you would like to be treated” thing. He also does his best to hide any sign of weakness and hates any treatment he interprets as pity. This is not to say he’s completely incapable of friendship, however. Once he decides he likes someone he goes all in and can be exceptionally loyal. But being snarky and underhanded comes far more naturally to him than kindness, after all the practice he’s had through the years, so he’s got his work cut out for him if he does decide to make a change.
Debt: Thomas has come to The Witch to work off his past sins, under the premise that doing so will earn him forgiveness from all the people he’s wronged back home over the years and leave them open liking and becoming friends with him. In typical Thomas fashion, it hasn’t occurred to him that it would be simpler to just apologize and try to behave like a decent human being.

Abilities: Thomas is an ordinary human being. His main main abilities are the skills needed for a life in service to English nobles: excellent posture, serving food and beverages, maintaining a carefully neutral expression whatever he may be feeling, remembering how to address people by their proper titles, knowing how to dress a nobleman in the appropriate outfit, etc. He also happens to be skilled at repairing and maintaining clocks, playing sports (especially cricket) and card games, and has basic first aid skills.
Strengths and Weaknesses: Thomas’s strengths are putting on a good performance (playing the good servant, hiding emotions, etc), getting himself out of sticky situations (though this is often more down to luck), being charming to those who don’t know him better, coming up with clever plots (though whether or not he executes them well is another matter), and excellent grooming and fashion sense (for the 1920’s at least).
His weaknesses include failing to consider the potential consequences of his actions, inability to get along well with others, a chronic tendency to fall for scams, overestimating his own cleverness, and losing his grip on common sense when he happens to fall in love with someone.
